“You’re ready. Start making stuff.”
This Austin Kleon quote is from his book Steal Like An Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative. You can find this quote on page 27.
Steal Like An Artist is one hundred fifty pages of inspiration and encouragement. I’m re-reading it now because I need that “Go Do It” tank to be refueled.
I spent most of my life believing I didn’t have a creative bone in my entire body. Coming across this book seven years ago helped me give myself permission to try stuff out. Whatever I come up with doesn’t have to be perfect.
Ask me about the many unfinished and failed knitting projects languishing in one of a million project bags in my house. I needed to apply the fearlessness I felt playing with yarn to my writing.
It only took me three separate attempts over a ten-year span to get the hang of knitting.
The joy is in the act of creation.
Do I like what I made? Did I enjoy myself on the journey? Yes to both, or either, is a win in my book.
That joy makes living that day worth it. #amwriting
